About the event
SOUL RECORDS by York Walker
Set in 1970s Chicago, Soul Records is a sharp, music-soaked comedic farce by York Walker about big dreams, broken systems, and the relentless pursuit of a hit record. When two lifelong friends chase their shot at soul-music stardom, they collide with eccentric producers, gospel divas, hustlers, lovers, and the high stakes of ambition—where success feels just one song away, and everything is on the line.
This workshopped presentation marks the third time Soul Records has been developed at Theater Alliance. The piece was featured in last year’s Hothouse Season Playwright’s Sampler and most recently received in a partnered workshop project with Theater Alliance and The Black Rep. We’re thrilled to welcome this next iteration back to our stage as this vibrant, hilarious, and deeply human play continues to evolve.
This workshop is sponsored through the generous support of the National New Play Network (NNPN) and Venturous Theater Fund.
